Green
Arts Council proudly participated in the Pinwheels for Peace project on
International Day of Peace, September 21, 2007. We “planted” our pinwheels in the grass at Green Branch
Library, to join the 1.2 million pinwheels that were displayed across the world
on that day.
Community
members made pinwheels at the City of Green’s Freedom Fest, and at the
Art-a-Palooza Fine Arts Festival on September 15, 2007. We look forward to continuing this
project on Sept. 21, 2008, as we once again celebrate International Day of
Peace with "whirled peace!"
Pinwheels
for Peace is an art installation project started in Florida in 2005 by two Art
teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, as a way for students to express their
feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. The first Pinwheels for Peace were
installed on Sept. 21, 2005. The project has grown from 500,000 pinwheels
planted the first year to 1.2 million pinwheels in 2007!
